ReD is a Research and Design studio in architecture and digital technologies, founded by architects Marta Malé-Alemany and José Pedro Sousa in 2004, which operates internationally from Barcelona and Porto. Through implementing advanced digital technologies, ReD is committed to explore the new design possibilities that emerge from the cultural and technological context of today’s digital era. Free from standard modes of production, ReD’s projects are characterized by their innovative aesthetic, spatial, structural and material qualities.
ReD works have been awarded and recognized in international publications, conferences and exhibitions. Recent projects include the “Habitar Portugal” exhibition design at the 2006 Venice Biennale and its re-installation at the Design Factory in Bratislava in 2007; a design consultancy for La Fura dels Baus, to develop the scenography of the show “Imperium”; and the exhibition design “Urban Implosions - Horror Vacui” for the Netherlands Architecture Institute at the 2007 Lisbon Architecture Triennial. In 2006, ReD won the Digital Architecture Award FEIDAD 2005, and the Ephemeral Architecture Award OutrosMercadus. In 2007 ReD has received a NEOTEC grant from the Portuguese Agency of Innovation to develop its entrepreneurial project, and has won the competition "Arquitectar o Ambiente".
